Trash the dress wedding cake food fight

You’ve seen trash the dress, how about trash the cake (or a cake smash)? That’s right – WEDDING CAKE FOOD FIGHT!

After the amazing reaction we had to our trash the dress photoshoot (where the bride ended up in the sea wearing her stunning wedding dress) we were inundated with emails from Isle of Wight couples who were dying to rock their frocks giving their dress a proper send off by doing something a little crazy. I’ve wanted to do something involving wedding cakes for a long time as being totally honest, they just look too yummy and pristine to be left sitting all day.

After an inspiring chat with the wonderful Jade Thornton of Petticoats and Frills Cakes the hunt was on to see which of the newlyweds who got in touch would be up for getting a little messy on our next shoot. Up stepped Carrie and Phil who wanted to celebrate their first anniversary in style by doing a trash the dress photoshoot!

Jade spends her time carefully crafting the most beautiful wedding cakes, but sometimes she likes to do things a little differently. For this photoshoot she made a cake which was elegant in design – a simple white wedding cake that would suit any kind of wedding – but inside each tier was made of the most brightly coloured cake you’ve ever seen! I think the proper name is colour pop but whatever it was – Amazing.

We were once again joined by the wonderfully talented duo Donna Jones (hair) and Jo Lofthouse (makeup) who upon Carrie’s suggestion transformed her with a vintage look influenced by our location for the shoot – an abandoned holiday camp on the Island. The contrast between the dirty, smashed up, derelict building and the beautifully clean and pristine couple (and cake) really drew to me to this setting and it worked perfectly as a location for our wedding cake food fight!

Anyway, enough rambling from me. Love it or hate it, here is our latest trash the dress cake smash photoshoot (beginning with a cherish the dress session).

Abi and Malcolm’s wedding was my perfect kind of day – a garden wedding set in a marquee in the beautiful Calbourne, Isle of Wight area – and to have my wedding photography published in The Times was a great honour.

I’ll be writing up a full blog post towards the end of the summer once I’ve finally caught up with blogging the weddings before this so keep checking back but in the meantime I hope that you enjoy a sneak peek from  The Times newspaper today!

Dear Everyone. Thank you. From Chris.

Before I start my review of 2012 in pictures I just wanted to write a brief message to express my sincere thanks to everyone I’ve worked with, met, chatted and drank tea with over the last year. All the smiling faces, the wonderful guests, the amazing wedding suppliers I’ve chatted with or just admired the work of. Also extra special thanks to my friends and family who have helped me out along the way, my fiancé who’s endured another busy year and you guys; yes you for reading this.

Most importantly I want to thank the wonderful couples who entrusted me with the honor of photographing their weddings. You are all awesome and it’s thanks to you guys that 2012 has been such an amazing year.

So here we go. This was 2012. Roll on 2013.

Ventnor Botanic Gardens is a venue I’d been dying to photograph a wedding at so imagine my delight when I was asked to capture this amazing day! Ventnor Botanic Gardens (VBG) are famous for their exotic plants and amazing surrounding but are less well known as a wedding venue so I really wanted to make the most of this stunning backdrop for wedding photos.

Anne and Gareth’s ceremony took place in the Echium Terrace, a room full of light overlooking the Botanic Gardens courtyard, before the party moving outside and in to the New Zealand Gardens.  As guests mingled and enjoyed relaxed post wedding celebrations in the beautiful gardens the bride, groom and I set off on a mission to create some awesome photos.

So here’s to a sneak peek of Anne and Gareth’s Ventnor Botanic Garden wedding!
