Tonight, MP’s voted in favour of same-sex marriage in England and Wales by 400 to 175 despite the opposition of almost half the Conservative MPs including Isle of Wight MP, Andrew Turner.

Commenting on the key House of Commons vote Prime Minister David Cameron described the approval as “an important step forward” that strengthens society.

Deputy Prime Minister and Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg added: “I genuinely believe that we will look back on today as a landmark for equality in Britain. Tonight’s vote shows Parliament is very strongly in favour of equal marriage.

No matter who you are and who you love, we are all equal. Marriage is about love and commitment, and it should no longer be denied to people just because they are gay.”

Yesterday, the amazing Seaside themed East Dene wedding of Jo and Alex was published on one of the top 5 weddings blogs in the UK – “OMG I’m getting married!”

The awesomely titled blog started a few years ago when the owner Alexis was planning her own big day and wanted a way to catalogue her inspiration. Since then it’s become far bigger than one blogger writing about one couples day and is a great source of inspiration for any couples planning their day so I’m very proud to have my work published on her wedding blog.

Massive thanks of course have to go to the awesome couple Jo and Alex for having such an wonderful day and for allowing me the honour of being their wedding photographer. You can check out the full article here: http://www.omgimgettingmarried.com/2013/02/a-colourful-east-dene-seaside-themed-wedding-alex-jo/

Earlier last week the new official ceremonies guide for the Isle of Wight arrived. It gives information on weddings, civil partnerships and other civil ceremonies on the IOW including the Register Office and licensed venues. In a small, wedding photography way, this was a pretty exciting moment for me as the guide is sent to anyone enquiring about getting married on the Island, as well as those giving notice or booking a civil ceremony and I have been lucky enough to have my wedding photography featured throughout the guide!

Working closely with the Registrars the excellent designers Marcus and Luci at Pineneedle have done a fantastic job producing the all-encompassing guide with tons of useful information in (as well as some awesome photos)! 🙂

If you’re getting married on the Island then give the Registrars a call to get your copy: 01983 823233 or you can view the Isle of Wight ceremonies guide online.

P.S. The photos and text are actually in focus and level in real life. I just wanted to be super edgy and cool by trying to display the brochure in an arty way.

P.P.S. Publicists, if you want to arrange official guide signing events or any other kind of PR event to bask in the fame of being included then please contact my agents Becky and Meow Cat.

Outdoor weddings in gardens with marquees, tents or yurts

Are you planning an outdoor garden wedding? Or maybe you’re holding your wedding reception in a marquee, tent or a beautiful yurt? As you’ve probably seen from reading my about page I LOVE garden weddings.

There’s something really special about outdoor weddings. Maybe it’s my music festival photography background that draws me to them but there’s nothing better in my mind than being outside, having a beautiful garden for a backdrop and capturing the most important day of a couples lives.

And there are so many opportunities for spontaneous, off the cuff moments at an outdoor wedding. The fun, the sunshine, the laughter; it all just adds to it and seeing a marquee in the distance all set up for a party well in to the small hours is just the icing on the cake for me!

If this sounds like your kind of wedding, or maybe I’ve just described your day – get in touch as I would love to hear all about it!

Not long after photographing Jo and Alex’s East Dene wedding I was fortunate enough to document the wonderful wedding of Amie and Ben. The East Dene mansion is such a flexible wedding venue and the couple put a whole host of personal touches in to their day making it extra special and a really great fun wedding to have the honour of being a part of.

Their ceremony took place in the house with daughter Maisy taking the important role as flower girl before guests headed out in to the mansions garden to get the party started! What ensued was a fun-filled afternoon of BBQ food, bouncy-castles, wedding photos on the rocks by the sea and dancing right in to the night. Amie even wore a hand-made dress which was especially designed so that she could run around freely in the afternoon and most importantly get on that bouncy castle.

Oh, and this awesome couple were well up for getting creative in the evening and throwing around sparks for their final light painting wedding photo! <3

Apple orchard wedding at Afton Park Apple Farm Freshwater

Afton Apple Farm as the name suggests, is a beautiful apple orchard near Freshwater on the Isle of Wight. It’s an accredited wedding venue that I’ve been dying to organise a photo-shoot at for a long time and so this summer I kept a weekend clear and called on some of the amazing wedding suppliers I’m lucky enough to have worked with on the Island.

Working closely with Chris from Inspired Island Events who was the talented stylist for the shoot we decided to really play on the fact that we had access to this picturesque orchard and accompanying gardens by going with an apple theme. Once this decided it gave us a colour scheme to work within – green, white and hints of red tying in with the apple theme further.

Our vision for the photo-shoot was to provide an elegant outdoor wedding right in the heart of the orchard by placing a ten-seat banquet style table amongst rows of apple trees.

With his in mind I started my email mission contacting each Isle of Wight wedding supplier giving them nothing more than the general concept and colour scheme leaving them to do whatever they wanted for the day. I had total trust in each of them as I knew it would be good so gave them as little guidance as possible and boy did it pay off! Read on to find out more.

The shoot started early on a misty Sunday morning back in August and I was appreciative of those involved just to be out of bed at that hour! Hair and makeup got underway first by Rita Camassa (MUA) and Chelsea (Jaks Hair) working from a marquee in the gardens before Dawn from Gems Bridal wear set to work dressing the models in the most beautiful dresses by Maggie Sottero and White One.

The dresses were selected by Chris from Inspired Island Events as they complimented the natural theme for the day.

As the models got ready the rest of the group got to work assisting Chris in setting up the banquet table in the stunning orchard and decorating it with apple themed centrepieces (using real apples) by JoJo from Blushing Blooms, favour boxes (with apple green ribbons), apple leaf name tags by Nicky Marinelli and the cutest apple printed material napkins by Hannah from Sew Special Bunting amongst other wonderful apple goodness.

As the sun began to burn through the mist the first model, Rosie, came to join us and the shoot began. Rosie modelled a Gresham style wedding dress with chiffon gown by White One as well as jewellery by Sophie Honeybourne and an apple themed button bouquet by I Heart Buttons.

Next up came our ‘couple’ for the day – Cordelia and Mark.

Mark wore a grey lounge suit and waistcoat supplied by Osborne’s which we coupled with an apple green skinny tie before realising that we had completely overlooked cuff-links  Never-fear though as the ever resourceful seamstress Dawn and florist JoJo picked tiny crab apples from a nearby tree and combined with a Swarovski crystal pin fashioned a ‘fresh’ set of cuff-links for our groom!

Cordelia wore the Courtney wedding dress by Maggie Sottero complete with diamanté embellishment combining it with bouquets carefully crafted to include fresh green apples in their design. And then in our final few frames our wonderful bride and groom wandered amongst the grassy orchard playing with umbrellas by Love Umbrellas.

Organising the apple farm wedding photo-shoot was great fun and the models and suppliers involved were excellent to work with. It really was just like arranging a miniature wedding where we had to bring in near enough everything used in the shoot right the way up from chairs and cutlery (by Coast and Country Marquees) to power for the hairdresser working out of the marquee being handed by Prosafe Electrical!

Many thanks to everyone involved in making the photoshoot such a success:

And finally, thank you Mr Weatherman for giving us some gorgeous sunshine in what was an otherwise terrible summer!
