You know a wedding will be awesome when the couple tell you they will be riding on horseback across fields to their wedding reception.

From the moment Abi and Malcolm told me about their day I knew that they were going to have an incredible wedding. The bride’s parents lived in Calbourne and their reception was to be held in a marquee set up in the field behind their house, so the nearby All Saint’s church was a natural choice for the couple. Not only did this mean that guests were able to walk from the church to their rustic wedding reception but Abi was able to arrive at the church on horseback with her father before riding away afterwards with Malcolm as husband and wife!

The bride wore a green wedding dress whilst the groom wore a regency suit with tails and after their church ceremony the couple managed to make a quick detour on horseback sneaking off for a ride on their favourite trail before rejoining guests at their reception. This also allowed me to meet the couple half-way through their ride giving us the perfect opportunity to take some creative wedding photos of the couple riding their horses in full wedding-attire across the fields!

The traditional marquee was decorated beautifully in a rustic style by the creative couple and their wedding breakfast was a homemade ploughman’s lunch which the all the family helped to make. There were many DIY touches to their day as all their friends and family played their part; from relatives who made Abi’s gorgeous green wedding dress and crafted their awesome wedding cake, to talented friends who provided live music in the evening as their entertainment.

To end of the day as the sun began to set, the happy couple took centre stage with their first dance as man and wife to a beautiful acoustic number as guests danced around them and partied the night away enjoying the most wonderful wedding reception.

Enjoy the photos!

Apple orchard wedding at Afton Park Apple Farm Freshwater

Afton Apple Farm as the name suggests, is a beautiful apple orchard near Freshwater on the Isle of Wight. It’s an accredited wedding venue that I’ve been dying to organise a photo-shoot at for a long time and so this summer I kept a weekend clear and called on some of the amazing wedding suppliers I’m lucky enough to have worked with on the Island.

Working closely with Chris from Inspired Island Events who was the talented stylist for the shoot we decided to really play on the fact that we had access to this picturesque orchard and accompanying gardens by going with an apple theme. Once this decided it gave us a colour scheme to work within – green, white and hints of red tying in with the apple theme further.

Our vision for the photo-shoot was to provide an elegant outdoor wedding right in the heart of the orchard by placing a ten-seat banquet style table amongst rows of apple trees.

With his in mind I started my email mission contacting each Isle of Wight wedding supplier giving them nothing more than the general concept and colour scheme leaving them to do whatever they wanted for the day. I had total trust in each of them as I knew it would be good so gave them as little guidance as possible and boy did it pay off! Read on to find out more.

The shoot started early on a misty Sunday morning back in August and I was appreciative of those involved just to be out of bed at that hour! Hair and makeup got underway first by Rita Camassa (MUA) and Chelsea (Jaks Hair) working from a marquee in the gardens before Dawn from Gems Bridal wear set to work dressing the models in the most beautiful dresses by Maggie Sottero and White One.

The dresses were selected by Chris from Inspired Island Events as they complimented the natural theme for the day.

As the models got ready the rest of the group got to work assisting Chris in setting up the banquet table in the stunning orchard and decorating it with apple themed centrepieces (using real apples) by JoJo from Blushing Blooms, favour boxes (with apple green ribbons), apple leaf name tags by Nicky Marinelli and the cutest apple printed material napkins by Hannah from Sew Special Bunting amongst other wonderful apple goodness.

As the sun began to burn through the mist the first model, Rosie, came to join us and the shoot began. Rosie modelled a Gresham style wedding dress with chiffon gown by White One as well as jewellery by Sophie Honeybourne and an apple themed button bouquet by I Heart Buttons.

Next up came our ‘couple’ for the day – Cordelia and Mark.

Mark wore a grey lounge suit and waistcoat supplied by Osborne’s which we coupled with an apple green skinny tie before realising that we had completely overlooked cuff-links  Never-fear though as the ever resourceful seamstress Dawn and florist JoJo picked tiny crab apples from a nearby tree and combined with a Swarovski crystal pin fashioned a ‘fresh’ set of cuff-links for our groom!

Cordelia wore the Courtney wedding dress by Maggie Sottero complete with diamanté embellishment combining it with bouquets carefully crafted to include fresh green apples in their design. And then in our final few frames our wonderful bride and groom wandered amongst the grassy orchard playing with umbrellas by Love Umbrellas.

Organising the apple farm wedding photo-shoot was great fun and the models and suppliers involved were excellent to work with. It really was just like arranging a miniature wedding where we had to bring in near enough everything used in the shoot right the way up from chairs and cutlery (by Coast and Country Marquees) to power for the hairdresser working out of the marquee being handed by Prosafe Electrical!

Many thanks to everyone involved in making the photoshoot such a success:

And finally, thank you Mr Weatherman for giving us some gorgeous sunshine in what was an otherwise terrible summer!

Best of 2011 review

It seems crazy that 2011 has been and gone, and we’re already well on our way into the New Year. As you can probably tell by the lateness of my post (and distinct lack of blogging), 2011 has flown by for me. So I’ve decided to take a moment to sit down, take it all in and share a few words and photos with you.

I had a fantastic year capturing beautiful weddings in picturesque gardens, grand country houses and some exclusive venues. Two of my personal highlights included a whole weekend of festival weddings and photographing a very happy pair of newly-weds dancing in the carnival procession! Weddings are fantastic and I have the best job in the world capturing all the passion, energy and excitement.

I feel so privileged to have been let in to so many peoples’ lives and would like to say a HUGE thank you to all of my 2011 couples and everyone I’ve worked with. So much laughter; so much love, and I feel very lucky to have been chosen to capture all those special moments for eternity.

Looking ahead, 2012 is set to be even more awesome, so I hope you will join me in raising a glass (or mug) to toast all the lovely couples getting married on the Isle of Wight in 2012.
